Keeping out of the sun or staying in the sun

Personally I love the sun, and have never had any problems related to the sun. I do try to keep to the shade between the hours of 11-2 . . but other than that. The sun warms me inside and out. I wouldn't be one out on a boat with out some form of protection, but the one thing I have never done is wear sunscreen. God gave us the sun for energy that we need to grow.. why would we want to put a chemical on our skin to keep the energy from reaching us? I cover myself with a light long sleeved top and the odd time a hat.

Hi Connie, thanks for the post, and I agree with your statement as does many health experts, but here's a little proof.

Sun Exposure Saves Ten Times as Many Lives Via Vitamin D than Die From Skin Cancer
NaturalNews) The number of lives saved by people doubling their sun exposure might be 10 times higher than the number of fatal skin cancers that would result, according to a study conducted by researchers at the Institute for Cancer Research in Oslo, Norway, and published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.

Exposure to the ultraviolet radiation from sunlight increases the risk of developing skin cancer, but also increases the body's production of vitamin D. The connection between vitamin D and bone health is well-known, and recent research suggests that a higher vitamin D intake might also provide protection against certain cancers, diabetes and multiple sclerosis. Vitamin D is also believed to help with the proper functioning of the immune system.

"The skin cancer risk is there, but the health benefits from some sun exposure are far larger than the risk," said lead researcher Johan Moan. "What we find is modest sun exposure gives enormous vitamin D benefits."

Vitamin D deficiency is a particular problem at northern latitudes, where the sun is weaker, particularly during the winter. Researchers calculated that in response to the same amount of time spent outdoors, Australians living just south of the equator produce 3.4 times more vitamin D than people living in Britain and 4.8 times more than people living in Scandinavia.

According to Moan, if the general population of Norway doubled the amount of time spent in the sun, approximately 300 more people would die each year from skin cancer, representing twice the current death rate. At the same time, there would be 3,000 fewer deaths from other types of cancer.

"The current data provide a further indication of the beneficial role of sun-induced vitamin D for cancer prognosis," said researcher Richard Setlow, from the U.S. Department of Energy's Brookhaven National Laboratory.

Moan recommends that people spend half as much time in the sun each day as it would take them to develop a sunburn.

HI Bobby and thank you for stopping by nature's whole-food. I have always had a bad taste in my mouth when it comes to anyone telling me to stay out of the sun. I do not lay out in the sun, but I try and get as much sun as I can. Living in the north where, in the winter months we get a limited supply of the sun, when spring arrives I thrive. I have never known anyone that has had a problem with skin cancer and to tell you the truth, I believe that if you know in your heart that you are healthy ... you stay healthy. Its only by listening and believing that the sun causes cancer that you're giving thought to it (cancer) and then chances are you will know of someone or get skin cancer yourself. So personally I don't listen to the news or read news papers anymore. We are as we believe we are. We become that wish we give thought to. It's totally a mind set. I personally haven't taken any kind of medicine or product that wasn't completely natural for many years. There truly is a mastermind and its in us, each and everyone of us. So by trusting our instincts, our heart, our gut feeling, our feelings, we can learn what is right and what is garble (the media) to control our health and our lives.
Trusting our selves in all matters is what (they) don't want us to do anymore. It's time for everyone to realize that God gave us a brain that can make choices and its time that we start to understand that by giving thought to what we want in our lives we can have, and by not giving thought to that which we don't want.
I have learned that by paying attention to my feelings .. really paying attention to them, I then know that I am on the right path to the knowledge that I am looking for.
Love and Light ***
