19 of the most nutritious and powerful antioxidant fruits in the world

ACAI - Whether used in beverages for instant energy, as an aid for sexual disorders or for aiding numerous other ailments, the Acai berry has been used by modern and ancient inhabitants of the Amazon rain forests for centuries. With a protein profile similar to eggs, a monounsaturated fat and polyunsaturated fat ratio nearly identical to olive oil, nearly 20 phytonutrients and blood-sugar-friendly glycemic index, the acai is a remarkable food. It contains several potent antioxidants, is packed with polyphenols (potent plant antioxidants) and boasts up to 30 times the anthocyanin content of red wine. Additionally, the acai berry is loaded with vitamins, especially vitamin E and trace minerals including copper, iron, and calcium.
Oprah's web site hailed acai as "one of the most nutritious and powerful foods in the world"...While the book, "The Perricone Promise", praised the fruit, stating, "Hidden within its royal purple pigment is the magic that makes it nature's perfect energy fruit." Acai's nutritional highlights include, polyphenols, anthocyanins, essential fats, Vitamin E, Minerals, and it's potential health benefits include, increased energy, supports healthy immune system, promotes healthy heart, supports healthy sexual function.
A 2006 study in the Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry showed that extracts from acai fruit triggered an apoptosis response in up to 86% of Leukemia cells.

CAMU-CAMU is a fruit native to Peru. It contains Potassium, Flavenoids, C vitamins, and Amino acids. It’s beneficial effects are believed to help with mood disorders, energy levels, immune function, and viral and bacterial infection.

CRANBERRY is commonly recommended by doctors for urinary tract infections. A recent study showed it reducing E. coli bacteria in urine. They are high in vitamin C and proanthocyanins which are both powerful antioxidants. Cranberries have been shown to help with high cholesterol and urinary tract infections.

PEAR is not only a delicious and flavorful fruit, but is packed with a variety of nutrients, including dietary fiber, potassium, vitamin C and polyphenols. Research has shown that pears may be able to help normalize blood sugar levels and boost metabolism.

ACEROLA CHERRY has historically been used to treat dysentery and fever. Modern research suggests it does possess both anti-inflammatory and astringent properties, which would explain its use for dysentery. It’s rich in Vitamin C and contains more than 150 phytonutrients, just in this one pretty little cherry.

BANANA - Well who doesn’t like bananas? It’s in MonaVie because it tastes good….BUT….what does it do for the human body? Bananas contain NO FAT, SODIUM, OR CHOLESTEROL. It is a high fiber fruit and is a great source of potassium, vitamin B6, vitamin C, and magnesium. Bananas potassium levels may help to regulate blood pressure and stroke risk. Along with quick relief of muscle cramps.

POMEGRANATE is one of natures most powerful antioxidant rich fruits. It contains an extremely high level of polyphenols and other free radical-fighting agents. Vitamins and Anthocyanins as well. It’s contents can help reduce the risk of heart disease, arteriosclerosis, and diabetes.

PRUNES. Well, we all know what prunes can do, don’t we? and we all know that a prune is a rotten plum. Well, not really. It’s actually a dried plum, and although plums have impressive antioxidant properties, when converted into prunes, their antioxidant content can increase by UP TO 600%!! Prunes also contain vitamins, anthocyanins, and minerals and help with aging related conditions. Researchers from Oklahoma State University found that prunes my prevent and/or reverse bone loss due to menopause. This finding was published in the journal Menopause. The findings suggest that dried plums (prunes) can actually reverse a particular process of oteoporosis previously thought to be irreversible.

WOLFBERRY. Wolfberry, also known as Goji Berry, contains 18 amino acids and 21 trace minerals. Like ACAI, wolfberry is also known for aiding sexual health. It also contains Lycium barbarum polysaccharide, which enables wolfberry to protect and repair cellular DNA.

ARONIA BERRY possesses powerful antioxidant properties. It contains high amounts of proanthocyanins and quinic acid (10 times MORE than cranberries). Quinic acid prevents urinary infection. This berry also contains vitamins, minerals and flavenoids and can help with inflammation, diabetes, and circulatory problems.
Oh, and in a study done at the Univ. of Maryland, aronia berry may provide protection against colon cancer. This study was published in Nutrition and Cancer in 2006.

PURPLE GRAPES has long held a reputation for improving health. They contain the potent antioxidant found in red wine and other grape products. It’s high flavenoid content can protect the body from cardiovascular disease and can help eye problems and various other aging problems. Greek researchers proved that grapes provide an array of protective powers, mainly through their antioxidant abilities. The study published in Mutagenic Research, showed that extracts from grapes can inhibit the formation of cancer cells by limiting the activity of certain types of free radicals.

LYCHEE FRUIT. This is a tropical fruit from South China. Its health benefits are impressive. It’s a low-calorie fruit with MORE VITAMIN C THAN CITRUS FRUITS. Wow, I didn’t know that. AND as much fiber as an apple and potassium levels comparable to a BANANA.
Lychee has been found to help with gastrointestinal health and overall wellness.

WHITE GRAPES tastes GREAT and is a very palatable addition to the other fruits in MonaVie. But white grapes serve more than one purpose. They are a great source of antioxidants, especially vitamin C. It’s also a great source of dietary fiber, which of course we know can help protect against heart disease and gastrointestinal complaints.

APRICOTS. What a pretty fruit this is. This highly pigmented, velvety-orange skinned fruit are prized for their antioxidant properties and are packed with vitamins, minerals, and dietary fiber. These nutrients contribute to overall health and protection of the heart and eye. Apricots contain beta-carotene and vitamin A, C, potassium, and fiber. Aside from helping with eye problems and heart disease, they can also help with stroke.

NASHI PEAR originates in Asia and has been cultivated for thousands of years. Modern science suggests that its antioxidant and phytonutrient profile may help with heart disease. It contains a wide variety of vitamins and minerals. It’s also known being helpful in treating digestive and urinary problems including constipation, because of its cleansing effects. It contains dietary fiber, B vitamins, and vitamin C. It can help with red blood cell production and gastrointestinal help. Nashi Pear is also a delicious, flavorful fruit.

BLUEBERRIES consistently rank very high in antioxidant activity when compared to other fresh fruits and vegetables. (except for Monavie’s ACAI, of course) The anthocyanins in blueberries are the chemicals responsible for its antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. And are linked to numerous health benefits.
They also contain vitamins and minerals and have been shown to help with heart disease, memory loss, and urinary tract infections. (Incidentally, before ACAI was discovered the Blueberry was thought to be the fruit with the most potent antioxidant capacity. Blueberries have an ORAC score of 94 per gram, but ACAI has an ORAC score of 1,027 per gram. ORAC stands for Oxygen Radical Absorbance Capacity. This is a test to measure the ability of a substance to penetrate healthy functioning human cells, fight off oxidation, and thus help prevent disease and build your immune system)

BILLBERRY has impressive antioxidant properties and is historically linked to EYE health. Studies indicate that bilberry, with its abundance of antioxidants, may also be effective in protecting the body against carcinogens and free radicals. It contains Flavonoids, anthocyanins, and resveratroll. Aside from helping with eye problems, it can also help with arthritis, heart attack and stroke, diabetes, diarrhea, and dysentery.
Added note: A Canadian research team published findings from a 2006 study suggesting that Billberry, a close cousin to the Blueberry, may be able to prevent and slow the progression of neurodegeneration diseases (such as Parkinson’s), mainly due to its antioxidant components.

KIWI FRUIT. Researchers are fascinated by the kiwi’s ability to literally protect cell DNA from oxidant-related damaged and protection of cardiovascular health. It also provides ample amounts of vitamin E, vitamin A, vitamin C, trace minerals and dietary fiber. Aside from helping DNA damage, it also can help with eye problems, and cardiovascular conditions.

PASSION FRUIT is recognized as a remedy for anxiety, depression, and sleep disorders. It’s also used in traditional medicine for urinary tract infections. Vitamin C, potassium, and other relaxing agents may also help asthma or spasmodic coughing conditions.
A recent study from Brazil suggests that passion fruit can fight chronic inflammation which is increasingly being linked to more disease. This study was published in an issue of the Journal of Ethmopharmacology.

It’s clear to me why the Doctors, Nutritionists, and Scientists who helped in the formulation of MonaVie, researched hundreds of fruits from around the world, and selected these 19 for the blend. With the addition of the essential Omega fatty acids, and plant derived Glucosamine (for joint health), MonaVie stands all alone in the functional beverage catagory.
As a distributor of this remarkable product, MonaVie, I DO NOT make any health claims regarding treating or curing any disease.
MonaVie is a FOOD. Not a Drug, and Not a Medicine.
However, I will add this note. I know of many many people who have taken it upon themselves to consume MonaVie instead of taking certain prescription medications with very positive results.

Thank you for starting this group Bobby. I'm looking forward to checking out the web site on natural news.
It's so wonderful knowing that many people are getting back to eating a larger plant based diet.

Loving Foods That Love You Back
Sunday, August 17, 2008 by: Roosevelt Pitt (see all articles by this author)
| Key concepts: food, sugar and water

NaturalNews) Ever really taken a slow walk through a supermarket? You can't escape the harsh reality that we are surrounded and bombarded by choices. It's at the point of being overwhelming in my opinion. Choices are good, but do we really need over a 150 brands of breakfast cereals? Apparently the answer is yes, if you care to inquire, the Food and Beverage industries who according to the U.S. Federal Trade Commission in 2006 spent over $1.6 billion in advertising to market their products to children. That has almost doubled in less than two years.

It's very clear that with so many choices and the powerful advertising that influences us to buy, it can be difficult to make the right choice. Unfortunately, that leaves us drowning in a never ending sea of indecisions. So what do we do with all these choices? At times the answer can be fairly simple. I've found 'simplicity comes best', from the mind of a child. During a recent conversation about what foods are good for you and what foods are not, my youngest daughter laughed and said "But I love that food." My oldest daughter replied, "Yeah but does it love you back?" That one reply was simple but contained a wealth of wisdom.

Loving foods that love you back, a concept that is very broad in its scope, but very powerful when it comes to teaching ourselves and children proper nutrition. As humans we thrive and grow based on the relationships we choose. To cultivate healthy relationships, we take the time to learn as much about our potential partner before committing. Why? Simply, because we all share a common desire -- to be fulfilled. Whether cultivating a business or personal relationship, we want it to be complete in order to function at our best capacity. How is it that utilizing this same philosophy with the food we eat has slipped from our consciousness? Is it that difficult to embrace the fact that we should nurture a relationship with the foods we consume? In other words, the foods we love should reciprocate by truly supplying the proper nutrition to our body. This will only happen, if and only if we improve our knowledge and make the best choices.

So ask yourself, does the food you eat truly love you back? Sounds silly perhaps until you think about the times you've had heartburn, stomach aches or worse -- an allergy reaction. Here are 5 helpful tips to consider and foods that I know for certain love us and those that don't.

5 Simple Tips to Remember:

1. Read the ingredients of the food you buy and research what they are.

2. Know your vitamins and minerals and what foods have them and those that don't. (Yes, there are some foods that have no nutrient content.)

3. Don't be taken in by every discount and coupon special. Saving money may not be saving your life.

4. Eliminate or Reduce microwaving your foods. Those rays destroy nearly 98% of its vitamins, in reality killing your food. Now that's not love.

5. Eat live foods such as fruits and vegetables as much as possible. It's been proven that you acquire more nutrients from live foods than dead ones.

5 Foods and Drinks That Truly Love You

1. Water is at the top of the list. Not only does water act as the ultimate cleansing agent but it also is effective in treating many of our aliments such as arthritis and asthma. Take a look at this article for more information (http://www.naturalnews.com/003202.html) .

2. Spinach is one of my favorites and a slightly underrated vegetable. One bowl of spinach contains as much calcium as a carton of milk!

3. Grapefruit can be sour but packs a punch when it comes to supplying a day's worth of vitamin C. Eat half of one and you are good for the entire day.

4. For those who are not allergic, a healthy diet of Fish (salmon or tuna) will provide much needed Omega 3 fatty acids to help maintain proper weight and gain less. It's also good in preventing depression.

5. Carrot Juice is known for keeping us seeing well into our twilight years. It's also a super blood cleansing agent and prevents known cancers. Now if that's not love, I don't know what is.

5 Foods That Have Give No Love

1. White Sugar of the refined processed variety has no love and has no nutrient value whatsoever. The body uses energy to digest and absorb the sugar and gets nothing in return but exhaustion.

2. Coffee is clearly a beverage of ups and downs which often leaves you spiraling downward when it's all said and done. The culprit is caffeine which causes lack of focus. Do you need a drink that does that?

3. Processed Foods, which covers a wide range from fast foods to most canned foods, are overloaded with nutrient-empty sugar, water, fat, flour, starch, artificial colorings and flavors. Avoid these at all costs.

4. Foods that have Yeast Extract as an ingredient are those to take out of the shopping cart. Yeast Extract is used to enhance flavor but has the similar effects of MSG (monosodium glutamate), which are headaches and reproductive disorders.

5. Doughnuts contain hydrogenated oils, white flour, sugar, and acrylamides. Essentially, they're one of the worst cancer foods you can possibly eat. Reader's Digest calls doughnuts "disastrous" as a breakfast food, and many experts agree it's probably one of the worst ways to start the day.
