Get the "Jump" on Time Management

“Eat That Frog!” is the admonition that comes from Brian Tracy in this month’s Book of the Month.

That suggestion is an analogy used throughout this powerful book, with the subtitle: “21 Great Ways to Stop Procrastinating and Get More Done in Less Time.”

Far more than a typical time management book, Eat That Frog! sheds new light on getting things done.

The author explains that “eating the frog” comes from an old saying that “if you eat a live frog the first thing in the morning, you’ll have the satisfaction of knowing that it’s probably the worst thing you’ll do all day.”

Tracy encourages readers to tackle the most challenging task of the day first, but he also offers guidance to help identify those things that are most important and will result in the highest effectiveness and productivity.

Best of all, Tracy makes it clear that the reason he encourages time management is far more important than merely crossing things off a list.

He says, “The purpose of time management skills, of eating that frog, and getting more done in less time, is to enable you to spend more ‘face time’ with the people you care about, doing the things that give you the greatest amount of joy in life.”

“With a new year ahead, now is the time to rethink and refocus on how we spend our time,”

“Brian Tracy’s ‘Eat That Frog!’ shares fun, fresh and extremely effective ideas for getting more done and for spending time on those things that are most important and rewarding.”

Tracy presents each of the 21 valuable points with strong explanations and examples, making it possible for readers to adopt habits of successful time management, including planning every day in advance, applying the “80/20 rule to everything,” leveraging their special talents and identifying key constraints.

He teaches readers how to deliver more value, how to develop stronger business skills and how to focus on those things that are most important.

“Focusing on key tasks has transformed my life,” says Tracy.

He concludes his positive, idea-packed book by promising: “The key to happiness, satisfaction, great success and a wonderful feeling of personal power and effectiveness is for you to develop the habit of eating your frog first thing every day.”
